Is getting a videographer ”worth it” is a question I see posted on the knot fairly often.
I usually reply that I’ve never heard of a bride who DID get a video regretting it, but I’ve seen plenty of brides who opted not to get a video say she did. That pretty much sums it up for me right there.
In trying to analyze why so many brides are quick to put videography in the “maybe” category, I can’t help but wonder if maybe they’ve never seen a really good wedding video.
I have to admit I was one of them. The term “wedding video” harkened images of pink neon heart picture-in-picture effects, poufy sleeves, button to the chin lace dresses (father of the bride anyone?) and bad hair - in other words I thought wedding videos went out with the 80’s.
That is until I saw the demo of the videographer we ended up hiring. It was right around the moment that the bride put the tiara on her head while tears streamed lovingly down her mother’s cheeks that I knew I HAD to have one. I couldn’t believe that I, who have never cried during any movie that I can recall (except when a dog dies) was tearing up watching the wedding of a complete stranger.
Such is the power of a modern wedding day videographer. With the help of special effects, the emotional weight of the perfect song and a great deal of talent and patience, today’s videographers create MOVIES. Complete with soundtracks, dramatic archs, trailers and custom designed DVD cases.
If you see a few demos of highly recommended videographers and are still not convinced then by all means cross it off your list and put the money elsewhere. All I can say is don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
