My Friend’s Big Fat Mexican Wedding..
I returned recently from the wedding of my dear childhood friend Michele, to her wonderful new Husband Hector who was born and raised in the small town of Xacatlan where the wedding was held. Friends and relatives of the couple flew into Mexico city to board a chartered bus to Xacatlan where approximately 200 of Hectors relatives were waiting to celebrate their marriage.
Here is the happy couple on the beautiful dance floor that Hector’s brother contructed himself:
There were so many highlights of this wonderful wedding, too many to list, but I’ve narrowed it down to these:
I was very honored that my friend wore in her hair the barette that I wore to my wedding..
Their reception tent was breathtakingly beautiful, the billowing fabric along the ceiling also draped down the poles and created such a gorgeous softness…
We danced all night, ate fabulous food, and drank way too much tequila. Witness this picture of my husband (did I marry Woody from Toy Story??)..
There were a few wedding traditions that were a bit different than any I’ve seen here, like when the couple takes a bite out of the actual cake itself, and a “dance” where the bride and groom get held up on chairtops with the groom holding onto the bride’s veil while all the men present hold hands and run under the veil and try to knock the groom off his chair..
Luckily no one was hurt and the groom didn’t let go of the veil!
All in all it was a beautiful wedding and we were so glad that we got to be there to celebrate with Michele, Hector and practically the whole town of Xacatlan!
