Any knottie who has ever visited the dress board knows that www.preownedweddingdresses.com and www.bridecouture.com are excellent places to search for a designer dress for less. But here’s a site I hadn’t heard about until today: http://www.sellyourweddingdress.com/
Inspired by motherhood and the pursuit of selling her own used wedding dress, Allison Purvis, Founder and President started SellYourWeddingDress in 2005. She now runs the full-service site and online store from her home. SellYourWeddingDress continues to grow and attract sellers and buyers from around the world.

As anyone who saw my wedding pictures can attest to, I’m not affraid to accesorize.
I figured walking down the aisle was the closest to the red carpet I was ever going to get, so when my photographer referred to me as his “hollywood bride” I took it as a compliment.
So you can imagine how happy I was when I found these beaded shoes (bonus, they were silver like my dress!):

But unfortunately the beading caught on the hem of my dress so I had to settle for a plainer shoe I found at http://www.myglasssliper.com/:

Not to be deterred from my quest for bling, I realized that the clip on rhinestone earrings that my grandmother gave me were the perfect detail for my unadorned shoes. Clip on earrings function pretty much the same way that shoe clips do, but without the little metal “teeth” to keep them on. I solved that problem by using a strip of that sticky moleskin stuff on the inside of the shoe to keep the earrings in place. The result was not only a nicely accessoried shoe, but I had my something old!

If you don’t have a family heirloom to wear on your feet, try your local anitque, consignment or thrift store. For you non-DIYers, you can simply order them online from: http://www.absolutelyaudrey.com/products_bridal.html

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED my dress, but I every time I wander into the Nicole Miller store at my local mall I somehow find myself in the way back… where the wedding dresses are.
From about $500-$800 you can get a GORGEOUS Nicole Miller wedding gown made of natural, not synthetic materials. Why didn’t I know about this when I was dress shopping???? Somehow all I managed to find in the way of “informal” was a $2200 Monique Lhullier slip dress. No thank you.
The answer is probably because NM only launched their bridal collection in the Spring of ‘05. And despite some editorial coverage, it seems they haven’t been advertising much in the wedding porn pages… So my loss is your gain. if you like more informal/destination style gowns it’s definitely worth considering.

Is getting a videographer ”worth it” is a question I see posted on the knot fairly often.
I usually reply that I’ve never heard of a bride who DID get a video regretting it, but I’ve seen plenty of brides who opted not to get a video say she did. That pretty much sums it up for me right there.
In trying to analyze why so many brides are quick to put videography in the “maybe” category, I can’t help but wonder if maybe they’ve never seen a really good wedding video.
I have to admit I was one of them. The term “wedding video” harkened images of pink neon heart picture-in-picture effects, poufy sleeves, button to the chin lace dresses (father of the bride anyone?) and bad hair - in other words I thought wedding videos went out with the 80’s.
That is until I saw the demo of the videographer we ended up hiring. It was right around the moment that the bride put the tiara on her head while tears streamed lovingly down her mother’s cheeks that I knew I HAD to have one. I couldn’t believe that I, who have never cried during any movie that I can recall (except when a dog dies) was tearing up watching the wedding of a complete stranger.
Such is the power of a modern wedding day videographer. With the help of special effects, the emotional weight of the perfect song and a great deal of talent and patience, today’s videographers create MOVIES. Complete with soundtracks, dramatic archs, trailers and custom designed DVD cases.
If you see a few demos of highly recommended videographers and are still not convinced then by all means cross it off your list and put the money elsewhere. All I can say is don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
And if you’re curious how ours turned out, here’s a link to watch our wedding video online.
